Driving home Monday night I get a suspension level warning on the dash and it tells me to take it to a workshop. Almost home and it seems that the car is sitting crooked. Sure enough I get out and the front driver's side is slammed. I dropped her off at the dealership this morning,

Kinja'd!!!

so while I am waiting for the estimate I'm looking into what kidneys are going for now days. Any guesses on how many months I'm going to go without food?

I'd say 4 grand. They'll do the other side and then they'll have to align it afterwards.

suspension work is expensive, electronic suspension work even more. So I'm going to guess a proper 4-6K $5,250.00 :)

Kinja'd!!!4

Is yours an '04? And without an extended powertrain warranty? Because if it is, I'll tell you exactly what it's going to cost, and it ain't pretty: $15,000. There's a design flaw with the 2004 and early 2005 models where if one air strut fails, they all need to be replaced at a cost of about $3,800 per strut. For a time, VW comped the cost of three of these struts, but that ship has unfortunately sailed.

I would seek advice on VWVortex. There are a few people who've had air struts fail and managed to find solutions to saving their cars. There are much less expensive aftermarket air struts that some owners have reportedly had luck with, and in theory, it's even possible to convert your car to the coil-over-suspension found in the A8. I have no idea what this would cost, but I've done a fair amount of planning for the day that my air suspension fails, which it will.

I really, really hope you can find a way to avoid a potential nightmare. Please keep me posted. Also, I didn't know there were any other Phaeton owners in Oppo these days. Very good to know!

In my line of work, I'm fortunate to know a number of very qualified VW and Audi technicians. After consulting with them, I may want to go the A8-coil-conversion route. Yes, I am saving my pennies for the day that this will happen. That's why I can't afford shoes.

"The struts that VW supplies as replacements for the 2004 Phaetons are the same part numbers as are used on 2005 through 2009 Phaetons, and they are the same part numbers as are used on every Bentley Continental GT and Bentley Continental Flying Spur that has ever been produced. Volkswagen continues to import the two Bentley models to North America, which guarantees the availability of these parts (from stock) for at least another 10 years." ~ Mod at VW Vortex . Footnote #47 states the use of MacPherson vs. Strut is inadmissible as evidence to ignore By-law 15.250-30 subsection 0PP0. However, you may petition the moderators with a Form 710 to request a special dispensation to use MacPherson vs. Strut, provided you have the requisite number of signatures and/or Citroen suspension fluid oil stains.

He's basically got a Bentley - the Phaeton is built on the same platform as the Continental Flying Spur and GT.

I knew that part, but I am hoping that the parts will be VW parts and not Bentley parts (even though they would be exactly the same, I'm sure anything with a B on it will cost 3-4 times as much).
